A word in season....

The Lord has given Me the tongue of the learned that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens me morning by morning He awakens My ear to hear as the learned. Isaiah 50:4 NJKThe prophet is just like any other man. He rose and ate, he laid down and slept. He was a normal human being. In the morning it seems, when he was the most rested and refreshed he was very sensitive to the things of the spirit of the Lord. The Lord would “”nudge” him and say: “Wake up, Isaiah, I have many things to tell you.”Like the proverb says: “When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you” (6:2). Isaiah took that to heart and believed that God was talking directly with him, making promises to him.Waking up is the first step. Hearing from the Lord is the second. This is why a consistent plan of daily devotions is so vital to spiritual health. As a result of awakening and listening to the Lord, Isaiah had the ability to say the right word to the right person in the right place at the right time. First, his eyes were opened to the Lord, second his ears were opened to hear from the Lord. Then was his mouth opened to speak sustaining and refreshing words to the languishing, weary followers of the Lord.Eyes open, ears open, mouth open. That is a good sequence -- for us as well as Isaiah.
