The Voice From Elsewhere
Little voices from little people fill the space around me! Each shrieking for my attention. I respond to each voice with joy and patience. Each of them, in a way that only a child can do, are describing with great detail the idea that has captured their interest or concern. Some of them are excited and others are fearful. Some want to run into the future, others want to hid behind Mom. The volume goes up and down. I can't keep up with the questions. In the midst of these voices I must listen for a "voice." A "voice" that is behind or above. A "voice" that is "in" but not "of."The "Voice" that doesn't answer all of the questions of these inquiring minds, but rather asks them a question that lifts them above their active imaginations (as great as they are).My calling (as Grandpa) is to hear, not simply their voices, but the "Voice" that is within and without; the "Voice from Elsewhere." The "Voice" that is greater than all the questions and answers; a "Voice" that nourishes, nutures, and nudges these small images of the "Voice" towards the path of His calling.I realize that "wisdom" doesn't always give answers but generally asks us greater questions. These little "images" are discovering so much, and with each discovery they have more questions, so many unknowns fill their mind. What does the next step hold?I look up and the world is filled with voices. Voices that cry out for answers and with fear. Other voices that shout back answers with a "certaintude" that is unsettling.Children, children.... shhh! There is a "Voice" that is beyond, above and greater. A "Voice from elsewhere."If only we could listen for and hear that "Voice." That "Voice" will lift our imaginations above and beyond the questions, the fears and the concerns that we are having.Poppy, Poppy.... I'm pulled back into this room! But I realize no matter the size, no matter the issue, only the "Voice" can really help us.The "Voice from Elsewhere"!!!!
