Run Lion Run.....

2 Samuel 23:20–21 (NKJV)20 Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. 21 And he killed an Egyptian, a spectacular man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand; so he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear. This is one of my all time favorite stories in the Scriptures! This little know man faced some very difficult situations and prevailed. He faced two (not one) huge warriors from Moab at the same time. He chased down a lion and followed him into a pit on a snowy day to kill him. He killed a very well armed Egyptian warrior who was seven and a half feet tall. This dude was always finding resistance in his journey and he always won!I've often wondered why he would chase after a lion. From what I can understand a lion is about four feet tall seven feet long and weighs in at four-hundred pounds. A lion and leap 36 feet and can run up to speeds of fifty miles per hour. What on earth was Benaiah thinking? My instinct would be to run, and it appears that every one else was running! The lion's instinct would be to run at Benaiah. What in the world would cause Benaiah and the lion for that matter to break their instinct? In reality the answer is fairly simple! Benaiah had been preparing for these moments. He had developed "habits" that had equipped him for these kinds of moments. He had developed his attitude and his ability to the degree that when he faced these obstacles he was more than ready for the challenge. When others were running away from the lion, he was running towards that lion. What others perceived as a obstacle he saw an opportunity. This "Uncommon" man had been practicing some "uncommon habits" which prepared him for the warriors and the lion.We can become "uncommon people" by developing "uncommon habits."It really isn't that complicated; 1) daily bible reading 2) daily prayer (do more listening that speaking) 3) write down what you hear 4) have others with whom you share what you think God is saying to you (and be willing to learn from them as well). Some day you might "chase a lion into a pit on a snowy day."
