A River runs through your life
Truly the only way to know something is to unite with it, to join oneself to it. I can stand and look at a stream all day, but until I step into the flowing water I can not experience or encounter the reality of the movement of the water over the stones and down the stream. I cannot know the cool refreshment of the moisture unless I am willing to immerse myself into that which I have so lovingly gazed. But as I give myself to the waters so the waters give themselves to me; we assimilate each other, giving to each other, interpenetration and exchange really begins as I step forward into the movement that I have only been admiring from a distance.Wisdom is the fruit of communion; ignorance the inevitable results of those who "keep themselves to themselves," standing apart, judging, analyzing the things which they have never truly known. An artist knows his art, the lover his beloved and the saint his God, in ways that are inconceivable as well as unattainable to the on-looker.God Himself stepped into the stream of creation! He became one of us; and ONE with us. Why? Because love requires 'touch.' He stepped into our created-ness so that we could "know" His uncreated-ness! We can today experience in tangible ways the very "Spirit of God."We can join in the communion of the divine and the created. We can through our actions and words immerse ourselves in Him who has immersed Himself in us. This baptism of the Spirit will produce in us a phenomenon called "prayer." (Romans 8:26) ... a stream of living water that will refresh each of us in ways that we have only imagined and observed (John 7:37-38).The pattern or practice is simple the concert or symphony is understated. The Prayer of the Lord will help always assist us in taking that first step into an already flowing stream of divine reality that never ceases to flow through our lives.Go ahead take the first step..... "Our Father who art in heaven...."
